Yi Zhou achieved a Bachelor of Construction majoring in Quantity Surveying from Otago Polytechnic in 2019. She began her career as a Quantity Surveyor and Contracts Manager and is now part of the Prendos Quantity Surveying team. She ably assists our clients in effectively planning and managing their project budgets, as well as identifying and mitigating project risks.
Yi was inspired by her father â himself a Project Manager â to pursue a career in quantity surveying. As a naturally analytical thinker, Yi is adept at evaluating projects and cost breakdowns, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. She is experienced in cost estimating and budgeting for clientsâ interests and pays meticulous attention to every detail.
Working as a contract manager previously, Yi gained a solid understanding of the NZS3910 contract. She also has a good grasp of the working culture, materials and regulations of the construction industry in NZ.
She communicates clearly and concisely with clients, contractors and team members, and takes a proactive approach to managing stakeholder relationships.
Yi has gained experience on major projects such as the Aotea Centre, where she was part of the team preparing the Schedule of Quantities. She has also worked on many Kainga Ora projects, providing estimating services and contract management, and acting as Engineer to Contract representative for the client. She also has experience in the retirement sector, budgeting, estimating, processing payments, and negotiating with the contractor daily regarding variations, payment claims and materials on and off-site.
Yi is currently a graduate member of the NZIQS and is currently working towards her full membership.
Outside of work she enjoys snowboarding, running, yoga, reading, music, cooking, baking and hiking.
