The brief
Prendos was engaged by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to project manage the design and build of a new hall and administration facility at Henry Hill School in Napier, thanks largely to our detailed knowledge of MoE projects and the technical skill of our Project Management staff.
Prendosâ design arm, RespondâArchitects, was also engaged to carry out design services for the project.
Our solution
The project drew on the skill and experience of a multi-disciplinary team and involved a great deal of coordination and oversight. Prendos carried out the combined roles of Project manager, Engineer to Contract and Technical Advisor with professionalism, impartiality and client-centred decision making at all times. We ensured any review or award of extension of time applications were not necessarily made in the principles favour, but were conducted in a fair and reasonable way, assessed against the programme and all relevant factors.
With a large number of stakeholders involved, project communication was extremely important. As such, we included additional procedures in our communications plan, including:
- Strict adherence with school safeguarding and vetting procedures,
- Regular project status reporting, along with QS financial reporting on projected final account and risks,
- Regular site, project control and program meetings with wider consultant team and client,
- Project risk register, outlining potential risks and their likelihood (monitored monthly with any potential risks mitigated).
The outcome
By taking on the combined role of Project Manager, Engineer to Contract and Technical Observation, we were able to deliver substantial cost savings and provide the Ministry with a single point of contact for both technical and management queries.
